Do Prospective Customers Trust You Website?

We came across the results of an interesting survey about how consumers shop online. If you own a website that sells directly to the consumer, this is something you'll want to know.

How Safe Is Your Customer's Credit Card?

The most important factor that scares a user away from an Ecommerce site is security. Users who expressed concern about whether their credit card information is safe is a whopping 60%. That's up from 52% a year ago. Clearly, this is a huge issue for the majority of people who shop online. If you site does not clearly display your security policy and safeguards, it should.

Where Does Your Customer's Private Information End Up?

A close second in terms of user concerns is privacy. Is the user's personal information going to be sold to a bunch of 3rd party marketers? Will it end up in a printout in the dumpster? Can your database be hacked by a middleschooler? Make sure your customer privacy policy is airtight, and make it clear to the user.

It's Not About Price

If you are trying to beat your competition on price, you may be making a big mistake. Price did not appear as a concern in the top five worries for online shoppers. The next three, in order of mentions, were shipping charges (41%); product quality (37%); and return policies (28%). Unless you are in a cutthroat discount field, focus your Ecommerce website on these features, and charge full price for your products.
